Foodsmart has been updated and has important new features, including:
- shorter simpler records
- enhanced instructions about how to handle food safely
- updated information on allergies and labelling
- instructions about handling raw eggs and raw egg products
- up to date information for food vans and stalls.
Foodsmart is suitable for a range of class 2 premises, including cafes and restaurants. A business with multiple associated class 2 food premises can also use it for all their class 2 activities. For example:
- a restaurant that also provides off site catering, or
- a business that prepares food at a permanent site and sells it from a stall at markets.

What is FoodSmart?
FoodSmart is a Department of Health approved template that allows different types
of food retail and food service businesses to develop their own Food Safety Program.
Class 1 and 2 Victorian food premises (premises that handle and sell potentially
hazardous foods) are legally required to have a Food Safety Program. FoodSmart is
designed for Class 2 food service and food retail businesses; however it may also
be suitable for some food manufacturing businesses. Click here

How can FoodSmart help your food business?
By answering a series of questions about your food activities, FoodSmart will create
a Food Safety Program tailored to your business. Your Food Safety Program can then
be saved to your hard drive or a memory storage device, printed and used in your business to help maintain safe food practices
and meet your legal obligations.
How long will FoodSmart take to complete?
A FoodSmart Food Safety Program will take about 15 minutes to complete.
